I can't remember what the shard cost of masters is, but I think with a low enough shard price, it'd work out (new players need to be able to buy a master or two after a reasonable time investment). I think rubies would fit the resource type that you use to buy cosmetic stuff with. But it'd be wasted text if I didn't post it I suppose.ĮDIT: One more thing: I think it's a good idea to reduce ruby rewards. I probably shouldn't be making comments about this in the first place.
That way, peopel who just enjoy playing draft can always pay 0 gold and just play the gamemode over and over again, and people looking for big rewards to complete their collection can dump a lot of gold into the mode and inflate their rewards (or lose a lot more than they gain, potentially). What I would prefer is for you to pay whatever amount of gold (up to a cap) before starting the draft, and the amount of gold you invest in your draft determines how much your rewards are multiplied by. I don't think inflating the rewards is a good thing, personally.
I don't think draft mode is an easy thing for new players to justify without the rewards being very inflated (2-3 wins pretty much broke you even before the change). I don't mind the entry fee, but that's because I have a rediculous amount of gold anyways, so the rewards mean more or less nothing to me. I wouldn't mind the rewards if there was some way of playing it indefinitely. Now we are paying less but have to play more for less rewards? Totally not worth it. I would like it more if draft would cost more (either old 1500 amount or even more) and we get a guaranteed spin token or better rewards in general, so our time spent is well invested. Which is sad because arena-mode in other Card games (which is similar to draft in this game) is my favourite mode in those games. I would never ever play another draft if the rewards stay the same. To get so completely♥♥♥♥♥♥on with the rewards after the joy of beating my personal draft-win record is really frustrating. Even if I had payed the new entry fee of 750 gold, 6 wins should give way more than just 210 gold and a couple shards. Especially considering the fact that I could've retired my run at 2 wins (before the patch) to get a spin token which is worth 1000 gold. My rewards were: ~210 gold and 16 shards.

So I continued my draft run from before the patch (I paid 1500 gold entry fee) and got to 6 wins (which is my personal highest).
